Abstract

Summary Trauma injuries are the main cause of morbidity and mortality among children and adolescent both in developed and developing countries. Accidental injuries of pediatric population are on the rise and have become an important social problem. Pediatric trauma is the first cause of death in children, exceeding all other causes of death combined. The high incidence of pediatric trauma are Road traffic Accident and Falls. After the head, the abdomen is the most commonly injured body area from Multi Vehicle Control System (MVCS). The spleen is the most commonly injured organ in pediatric abdominal trauma. Non-operative management has become standard practice. The FAST (Focused Assessment Sonography for Trauma) exam has added a method to quickly evaluate a patient with possible abdominal injuries in the trauma bay. Initial assessment and management of pediatric trauma patients Children have a different physiological response to major trauma compared to adults, in that they maintain a near-normal blood pressure even in the face of 25% to 30% of blood volume loss. A rapid and well-organized team assessment of an injured child, following ATLS guidelines, is essential
