Abstract In this study, 280 samples were examined for the presence of A. hydrophila and S. aureus, the highest prevalence of A. hydrophila was detected in the samples of oysters (22.2%), followed by crabs (15.4%), shrimp (12.4%) and squid (11.1%). The highest prevalence of staphylococcal strains was in shrimp samples (20.2%), followed by crabs (15.4%), clams (14.8%) and squid (11.1%). A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test was performed to detect some virulence genes in A. hydrophila. aer and hly were detected in 100% of isolates. In S. aureus, the sea gene was detected in 44% of isolates and nuc was detected in 100% of isolates. Susceptibility testing of a number of antibiotics was performed on A. hydrophila and S. aureus isolates. This test demonstrated that the isolates were highly resistant to a large number of antibiotics. This is a consequence of the indiscriminate use of antibiotics on fish farms to the increased spread of MDR strains worldwide. In the end, good hygienic measures must be taken in handling with all types of seafood, both during production and aquaculture, and to preserve the product after processing by preserving it in an appropriate environment and also by limiting the excessive and indiscriminate use of antibiotics. |
