Abstract
This work was a prospective study conducted on 45 consecutive patients with Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy (IGE) attending the outpatient clinic of the Neurology Unit, Neuropsychiatry Department as well as The Center of Psychiatry and Neurology, Tanta University Hospitals in the period from the 1st of February 2019 till the end of December 2019. The aim of this work is to evaluate the cognitive functions in patients with Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy and to identify the subclinical cognitive dysfunction in those patients. Subjects and Methods: This study includes 45 epileptic patients and 15 control subjects. Both patients and control subjects were age and sex-matched; they were classified into 30 medicated epileptic patients, 15 newly diagnosed non-medicated epileptic patients and 15 healthy control subjects. Inclusion criteria included: 1. Patients diagnosed as primary generalized epilepsy. 2. Age from 18 to 45 years. 3. Normal hearing. 4. Good reading and writing abilities. 5. Patients on mono-therapy: carbamazepine, valproate or levetiracetam.
