Abstract Neonatal sepsis is clinical syndrome of systemic illness occurring in the first month of life resulting from the pathophysiological effects of severe bacterial infection. It remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality both among term and preterm infants especially among very low birth weight (VLBW). Neonatal sepsis is divided into early- and late-onset sepsis, based on timing of infection and presumed mode of transmission. Vitamin D refers to a group of fat-soluble secosteroid responsible for enhancing intestinal absorption of calcium for bone health, iron, magnesium, phosphate, and zinc. Recently, there evidence that vitamin D has effects on the immune system. |
