Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to stylistically analyze three selected short stories by the Sudanese writer Leila Aboulela, “Missing Out”, “Majed”, and “The Ostrich”. The model of stylistic analysis proposed by Geoffrey Leech and Mick Short (2007) has been adopted as the theoretical framework of the thesis. This model of stylistic analysis enables the researcher to uncover the linguistic tools and stylistic devices employed in conveying the literary meaning. The study is divided into seven chapters and a conclusion. Chapter one presents the background, objectives, limitation, significance, and organization of the study, as well as the biography of the author. Chapter two focuses on the theoretical and conceptual framework and related literature. Chapter three introduces the methodology of the thesis. Chapters four, five, and six form the analytical part of the study in which the three short stories: “Missing Out”, “Majed”, and “The Ostrich” are stylistically analyzed. The last section includes the conclusion, which summarizes the findings of the thesis.
