Abstract

The aim of this study was to Monitoring the carbon monoxide concentrations in some traffic jams zones and garages in Alexandria city and comparing them with the permissible limits of the Carbon monoxide in these places according to the National Egyptian laws , World Health Organization (W.H.O) regulations and Environmental Protection Agency criteria.Ambient air quality has become an important environmental concern during the past decades due to the increase of anthropogenic emissions of pollutants to the atmosphere (Castellano et a/., 2009). Air pollution is one of the most serious issues in urban areas due to its adverse effect on human health.92% of the world’s population lives in places where air quality levels exceed (WHO, 2016) .Air pollution in 2012 caused the deaths of around 7 million people worldwide (WHO, 2012).

Air pollution is one of the most complicated challenges facing the world today. It is considered an indicator of human progress and technological advancement, but if left unchecked, it will lead to our annihilation.
Since the beginning of history, more precisely when man first discovered fire, mankind has been suffering from the impact of air pollution on health and the environment. And it has grown ever since to the site of becoming a major threat to all life on the planet.
