المستخلص

The research aimed at investigating the effect of the flipped classroom strategy on developing first year secondary students’ reading comprehension skills. To achieve this aim, the experimental method in a quasi- experimental design (two groups) was utilized. The participants consisted of (50) female students from Kafr El Sheikh Azhary Secondary Institute for Girls in Kafr El Sheikh City, divided into two groups, (25) participants each. The instrument of the study was a reading comprehension skills test. It was used as a pre-posttest to measure the differences between the means of the students’ scores in the pre-posttest. The pre-test was administered to both groups which proved their equivalence. The control group was taught using the traditional strategy, whereas the experimental one was taught via a flipped classroom strategy using instructional videos, power point shows on mobile phones and /or computers for the first term of the school year 2019-2020. Then, the post test was administered. The statistical (t) test for related groups was used. The most important results of the study revealed a statistical difference between the means of the two groups in favour of the experimental group in the posttest at the (0.01) level. The research recommended the adoption of the flipped classroom strategy and employing it in a way that serves the educational process and develops the learning of the English language skills.
