Abstract

Stroke has large negative impact on society, especially on women. Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death for men, but the third leading cause of death for women. It is suggested that there will be an increase of stroke burden in women in future. The aim of study is to study clinical presentation, risk factors and short term outcome ischemic stroke in women admitted to Tanta university hospital. This study included all females with first ever ischemic stroke over 18 years old presented with first ever acute ischemic stroke admitted in Department of Neuropsychiatry and Center of Neurology, Psychiatry and Neurosurgery were 251 and also included 135 males as a control group during six months from January 2019 to June 2019 and followed up till the end of admission. All patients were subjected to full medical history, general examination and full neurological examination. Stroke severity was assessed by National Institute of health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) . Type of stroke was determined according to Oxfordshire Community Stroke Project Classification (OCSP) and TOAST classification (Trial of Org 10172 in Acute ischemic stroke treatment).
