Abstract

Summary and Conclusion Umbilical hernia repair, a common day-surgery procedure in children, is associated with considerable postoperative discomfort. The RS block and the subcostal TAP block can provide effective pain relief for umbilical or other midline surgical incisions. Use of ultrasound for regional anesthesia aid in accurate placement of local anesthetic and avoiding the complications of the blind technique. This study was carried out in Tanta university hospitals in the surgery department on 90 patients of both sexes aged from 2 to 6 years old with ASA physical status I and II, to compare postoperative analgesic effect of US-guided RS block and US-guided subcostal TAP block in patients scheduled for elective umbilical hernia repair. Exclusion criteria included: Parents refusal, allergy to local anesthetics, bleeding and coagulation disorders, history of seizures, known neuromuscular or systemic diseases (Kidney, liver, respiratory, cardiac). All Children’s guardians signed informed consent and the study was approved by the institutional ethical Committee. The Patients were randomly divided into three groups (30 patients each): Control group: Patients received general anesthesia without administration of regional anesthesia.
