Abstract pleasMGD is one of the most important etiologies of dry eye disease as presence of healthy oily layer over the precorneal tear film is essential to keep tear film stability and prevents rapid evaporation of it that results in dry eye manifestations including ocular discomfort and burning sensation. Meibomian gland dysfunction may be because of reduced meibum secretion that is caused by atrophic meibomian gland acini or obstructive pathology especially in elderly with history of chronic blephritis and this type is called hyposecretory variant of meibomian gland dysfunction, while in hyper secretory variant the cause of dysfunction is the altered nature of the secreted meibum and it is usually associated with seborrhoeic dermatitis or rosacea. |
