Abstract

This study was conducted during two consecutive seasons 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 under greenhouse conditions in a special nursery in Al-Manayef area of Ismailia Governorate, Egypt. In order to study the rooting ability of the olive cuttings by using some chemical treatments as IBA in different concentrations (3000, 4000 and 5000 ppm) with or without the wounding or dipping the cutting base in hydrogen peroxide at a concentrations of 3.5%. Furthermore, it is possible to increase the capacity, rooting and growth of three olive varieties (Kalamata, Dolci and Elegeizy).
The results showed that best vegetative growth (number of branches / cutting and plant length, fresh and dry weight of stem and leaf area and number) and the best root parameters (number of roots / cutting and average length of roots as well as dry and fresh weight of roots) were found when cuttings treated with IBA at a concentrations of 3000 or 4000 ppm +wounding or dipping the cuttings bases in 3.5% hydrogen peroxide. The results also showed that the ability to form roots of the low-rooted kalamata variety can be increased by the previous treatment.
