Abstract
3-Mercapto-1-(substituted)-4-yl-6,7-dihydro-5H-cyclopenta[c]pyridine-4-carbonitrile compounds (II a-c) were synthesized by the reaction of 3-amino-1-thioxo-1,5,6,7-tetrahydrocyclopenta[c]thiopyran-4-carbonitrile (I) and different amines such as piperidine, morpholine and piperazine. The morpholinyl compound IIb was used as a starting synthon for synthesis of thienocyclopentapyridine and cyclopentapyridothienopyrimidine heterocycles. (Scheme i).
