Abstract

The symptoms reported during withdrawal included seizures reported during withdrawal in 8.70% of the population, palpitations in 7.61%, chest pain in 5.43%, headaches in 73.91%, anxiety in 21.74%, loss of appetite in 39.13%, nausea in 21.74%, vomiting in 14.13% and diaphoresis in 19.57% of the population. Difficulty falling asleep which was reported by almost all patients 92.39% and difficulty staying asleep which was reported by 69.57% of the population, anxiety in 21.74% of the population and irritability in 58.70% of the population.
After 1 month of abstinence of SC, 6.52% of population reported memory impairment, poor concentration was reported in 33.70% of the population. Headache in 17.39% of the population, Tremors in 22.83%, Sleep disturbances were highly significant with difficulty falling asleep reported in 67.39% of population and difficulty staying asleep in 23.91%. Dysphoric mood was reported in 18.48%. Irritability in 20.65%. Mood swings in 33.70%. Anxiety in 14.13% of the population.
The addiction severity index showed that the most affected dimensions were drug, employment, psychiatry and family but legal and medical dimensions were the least affected.
Identification and recognition of possible adverse effects in patients using SC and the development of medical, employment, social, psychiatric and legal problems should guide the development of empirically based preventive and intervention strategies aimed to better understand the impact of these compounds which were commercialized as harmless blends although they are far from that.
