Abstract Vitamin A and minerals are essential for animal and human health. Vitamin A supplement as RP used to treatment VAD, in addition, many studies reported that VA can interfere with some serum elements. Excess or deficiency of these elements may result in severe malfunctioning of the body. In this current study, we investigated the effects of different doses of VA on the levels of some serum elements in experimental animals through three-time interval. Healthy adult male Wister albino rats (90– 110g) were housed under controlled laboratory conditions. They were allowed one-week acclimatization period before the initiation of the experiment. Rats were randomly divided into seven groups, (n= 15 per group). group I: (control group), rats of this group fed with regular diet. group II: (olive oil control) received 0.5 ml olive oil/day orally. group III: treated with 0.7 mg RP/kg/day. group IV: treated with 1.5 mg RP/kg/day. group V: treated with 3 mg RP/kg/day. group VI: treated with 6 mg RP/kg/day. group VII: treated with 12 mg RP/kg/day. The appropriate dosages of the RP were administered orally to the animals according to their body weight. After 2, 4 and 6 weeks from administration of RP, five rats from each group were decapitated. |
