Abstract

_Swept source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) is an objective, fast, reliable ,high sensitive, non-invasive technique used for detection of postoperative tear film changes. The incidence of cataracts and number of cataract surgeries performed rapidly increasing. Development of postoperative dry eye has been implicated as an important obstacle to patient’s satisfaction despite an excellent visual recovery. The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in tear film functionin patients after phacoemulsification by anterior segment OCT. The study included 40 eye of 40 cases underwent phacoemulsification for treatment of cataract at Mansoura ophthalmic center in the period from April 2018 till March 2019. All the included cases were subjected to detailed history taking (including ophthalmic history) and full ophthalmological examination. Evaluation of lacrimal tear and ocular surface was done using Tear film break up time and Schirmer 1 test. Tear meniscus height was performed using Swept-source anterior segment optical coherence tomography instrument (Triton, Topcon). The cases were followed up for three months postoperatively with recording of the previously mentioned parameters_
