Abstract

Six treatments were applied to investigate the effects of dietary nano zinc oxide particles (NZnO) on broilers performance. Treatment one (control) contained 100 mg zinc oxide/kg of diet in inorganic form (ZnO). Treatments from two to six, diets were supplemented with 100, 80, 60, 40, and 20 mg NZnO /kg of diet, respectively. A total of 192 one-day-old unsexed broiler chicks ”Cobb, 500” was used and fed three types of diets. Starter diet (0 to 3 weeks of age) contained 22% CP and 3000 Kcal ME/kg diet; grower diet (4 to 5 weeks of age) contained 20% CP and 3100 Kcal ME/kg diet; finisher diet (the 6th week of age) contained 18% CP and 3200 Kcal ME/kg diet. Feed and water were supplied ad-libitum during the 6 weeks experimental period. The results showed that:
1- NZnO at the level of 40 mg/kg of diet is a considerable Zn source for broiler chickens with beneficial effects on the growth performance and economic efficiency; 2- Diets supplemented with 40 or 20 mg NZnO/kg improved breast and thigh meats quality, enhanced immune enzymes and increased blood serum constituents and tibia mineral contents; 3- Dietary NZnO increased the retention as well as decreased the excretion of N, Ca, P, and Zn.This reduced Ca, P, and Zn infiltration to groundwater and N air pollution, which reduced the pollution degree of the environment.
