Abstract

The aim of the work in this thesis was to formulate and evaluate of TA-loaded microemulsions as an ocular drug delivery system toincrease its ocular bioavailability and improve patient compliance. In the first part, TA loaded microemulsions were successfully prepared using phase titration method. Oleic acid was chosen as oily phase, Cremophor EL as a surfactant and Propylene glycol as a co-surfactant. The optimum formulation was selected and subjected for further characterization. In the second part, the selected formulation was subjected to in vivoevaluation to elucidate the pharmacological and the in vivo effectiveness of this formulation compared with the commercially available TA suspension, Kenacort®A. The selected formulation showed promising results in improvement of inflammation uveitis induced rabbits as evidenced by anterior blood cell counts and protein content and histopathological findings.
