Abstract

Mobility impairment is a potential or actual limitation of independent physical movement within the environment. Quality of life refers to the patient’s ability to enjoy normal life activities. Some medical treatment can seriously impair quality of life without providing appreciable benefit, while others greatly enhance quality of life. The aim: of this study was to evaluate the effect of educational program for older adult with mobility impairment. Design: a quasi-experimental design was used in this study. Setting: the study was conducted in orthopedic outpatient clinics at Ismailia insurance hospital. Sample: purposive sample involved older adults with mobility impairment (100). Tools: three tools were used, first tool, Part1: Interviews questioners used in this study Socio-demographic data for older adults, Part 2: Concerned with past and present history. Part 3: Concerned with client knowledge and practices exercise. Part 4: A-Older adult’s activities of daily living, B- Instrumental activities of daily living are more complex activities. Part 5: Data related to different aspects for measuring quality of life, Second tool: Review medical record, Third tool: Observation check list for home environmental safety. Results: There was statistically significant difference (p=0.000).Improvement in the mean score of total knowledge of studying sample about the mobility impairment post implementation of the program compared to pre implementation of the program. There was statistically significant (p=0.000).improvement in the mean score of the total practice exercise of the study sample about the mobility impairment post implementation of the program compared to pre implementation of the program Conclusion: The educational program has succeeded in improving quality of life, older adults’ knowledge and practicing of activities of daily living. Recommendations: Emphasizing the importance of raising awareness for elderly regarding physical mobility maintenance that will improve their physical condition and their ability to perform daily living activities
