Abstract

This study was done labor/delivery ward at Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital during the period between July 2019 and February 2020.
Non-inferiority randomized controlled clinical trial.
That included all women anticipated to undergo vaginal delivery according to the following eligibility criteria:
According to the protocol adopted by Ain Shams University Maternity hospital where episiotomy was performed for women who were likely to have perineal tearing. After delivery of the fetus, all included women received 10 units of IM oxytocin.
After clamping and division of the umbilical cord, included women were subjected to either of the following according to the randomly-allocated group: group I: included women who had the standard controlled cord traction (CCT). group II: included women who underwent spontaneous placental delivery using the hands-off management (no CCT was performed).
A total of 430 women, randomly allocated into one of two groups: group I [CCT Group] (n=216) and group II [No CCT Group] (n=214), were recruited in the study. There were no significant differences between women of both groups regarding the initial characteristics.
