Abstract

Neurosurgery is a medical discipline and surgical specialty that provides treatment of pain or pathological processes and modifies the function of the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system (1). There are hundreds of different types of neurosurgical procedures and one of these most common neurosurgical procedures is craniotomy (3). Craniotomy is one of the most important neurosurgical procedures. It represents a fundamental and primary means for entering the intracranial space (8). Craniotomy may be associated with different complications. So, management of patients undergoing craniotomy requires comprehensive care and constant monitoring. Nurses play a vital role in providing care for patients and in minimizing systemic complications & serious neurological consequences that are associated with anesthesia and the surgical procedure (19). Thus, the implementation of nursing intervention program is necessary to provide and improve basic knowledge and practice of nurses and to improve patients’ outcomes (20). The aim of this study was: To evaluate the effect of nursing intervention program for nurses on clinical outcomes of patients undergoing craniotomy. Research design: The present study was a quasi- experimental research design. Setting: The study was conducted at Neurosurgical Departments of Emergency Hospital affiliated to Tanta University and Tanta International Educational Hospital.
