Abstract

Since PP mesh first introduced to medical society till now with more than 70 types of mesh commercially available, adhesions still one of the most important complication.
This work was planned to evaluate the efficacy of bovine amniotic membrane (BAM) in comparison to use of omentum with PP mesh in repairing of induced 5 cm diameter circular abdominal muscular defect .This research was done in Surgery , Anesthesiology and Radiology Departement , Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Zagazig University.
This Experimental study was carried out on 24 (twenty four) of apparently healthy mongrel dogs with (1.5-2 years) as average age and (15 -20 Kg) and divided into 3 main groups.
In all 3 main groups a 10 cm incision was performed through skin and subcutaneous tissue in the ventral mesogastric region. Dissection of subcutaneous tissue was performed using blunt dissection with curved scissors.A circular full thickness abdominal wall defect including muscles and peritoneum with diameter of 5 cm, was created at the same site to represent the hernial ring .
In group (A),the prosthetic material was trimmed on the shape of the defect then sutured in direct contact with viscera .
In group (B), bovine amniotic membrane (BAM) is tailored to the size of the defect to be used. We placed the BAM in direct contact with viscera then the prosthetic material PP was trimmed on the shape of the defect then placed just above the BAM then sutured.
