Abstract
This work aims to study some of the variations of the coronary arteries on the livings showing the source of these vessels ,the dominance of the coronary arteries as it is well known that the coronary arteries vary in their origin and course also they may vary in number .the dominance of the coronary arteries was done according to the statement that in case of right dominance the posterior interventricular artery is a large branch of the right coronary.but in the case of left dominance ,the posterior interventricular artery is a branch of the left coronary .so the artery giving off the posterior intenterventricular artery is defined as the dominant artery .
This study was based on angiographic results of cases attended at the cardiac catheterization unit ,sohag university hospitals .
The total number of cases was 596 of different ages ranging from 30-70 years .
The results of the study were analyzed statistically and it was found that the dominance of the coronary arteries is mainly right in either males or females .the majority of cases were found to lie in the age groups 40-60 years. Also, significant statistical differences in the age group above sixty years.
This knowledge will be of importance for the clinical anatomic teaching. Also it will be helpful in the interpretation of coronary angiography and surgical myocardial revascularization.
