Abstract

This prospective and retrospective study included 30 patients who presented with acetabular fracture between18 and 52 years of age between November 2013 and March 2018. In this study the youngest patient was 18 years of age and the oldest was 52 with a mean age of 34.17 ± 9.99 years. There were 25 males (83.3%) and 5 females (16.7%). Radiographically according Judet and Letournel classification (3) 15 patients were classified as transverse acetabular fracture (50%) and 15 patients were classified as T-shaped acetabular fracture (50%). All patients were subjected to complete clinical and radiological examination preoperatively and at the end of follow up. Patients were treated with one stage operative treatment in the form of open reduction and internal fixation of acetabular fracture either by Kocher Langenbeck or ilioinguinal approach according to the more displaced column. This was associated with or without percutaneous fixation of the other column. The patients were followed up both clinically and radiologically for a period ranged from 18 to 24 months. At the end of follow up, the clinical outcome was then graded as excellent, good, fair, poor based on modified Merle D’Aubigne Postel scoring system which included 3 parameters, pain, range of motion of hip and walking ability (18- Excellent, 15 to 17- good, 13 to 14- fair, <13- poor), while the radiological outcome was evaluated by Matta’s criteria which included 3 parameters osteophytes, joint space narrowing & sclerosis. Based on which it has been graded as excellent, good, fair & poor.
