Abstract

Multitransfused patients such as subjects with hemophilia and thalassemia are at high risk of acquiring hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) affects 130-210 million people worldwide and is one of the major risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma. Globally, at least one third of hepatocellular carcinoma cases are attributed to HCV infection, and 350000 people died from HCV related diseases per year.The aim of the work:, The aim of this study is to screen the problem of HCV infection and to estimate its burden among pediatric patients suffering from hematologic diseases necessitating repeated blood and blood component transfusion in Hematology Clinic of Mansoura University Children’s hospital Materials and Methods: Patients were subjected to detailed history and clinical examination. Routine lab was done and anti-HCV antibody for all patients with PCR for positive cases only.
