Abstract The study aims at experimenting different methods for implementing renewable energy in buildings by using the Integrated Design Process (IDP) methods in order to achieve sustainable developments. The goal is to develop and presents a framework for developing a local decision support model that helps decision makers in Egypt to select the best and optimal scenario for a new construction project and retrofitting projects as well. This study provides methods of how to use renewable energy in buildings with the aid of integrated design process (IDP) to achieve sustainable development and also with an inexpensive way. For achieving the framework of this study some interesting building examples which were built using (IDP) and renewable energy were analyzed. The researcher then delivered two frameworks one for new building projects and another for retrofitting projects. Finally, an example was chosen and a simulation model was developed using Autodesk software which depend on different data categories collected from the building survey. To achieve the best retrofitting process for the building the building users were interviewed to stand on the building main problems, also energy bill readings and the relevant building construction technical data were gathered and studied. |
