Abstract

The scientific report in Air Separation and Liquefaction explains the applications of the liquefied products such as liquefied Nitrogen which is used mainly in cooling, preserving, deep-freezing and inserting and purging, also liquified Oxygen is used in many important chemicals such as ethylene oxide and titanium dioxide. It is also used to increase the production capacity of oxidation processes. Moreover, Liquefied Argon can be used for the assist gas for the laser cutting of titanium as well as laser welding in CO2, Argon is used as a shielding gas for MIG and TIG Welding processes and plasma-cutting. The scientific report discusses the cryogenic cycles used for deep refrigeration at the air separation plant as well as the Equipment used such as Compressors, Expansion devices, Heat Exchangers and Distillation columns. Study and analyses of practical plant performance through computer aided programs has better results and is cost effective. Aspen Hysys by Aspen Technology is one of the major process simulators that are widely used in cryogenic, chemical and thermodynamic process industries. In this work, the simulation study of cryogenic air separation unit is performed to produce liquid nitrogen, oxygen and argon. Several modifications have been carried out on the cycle to determine the best efficiency and energy saving possible such as using of cascade cycles and Mixed refrigerant cycle. Study of both max temperature and max pressure effect on the overall performance of the cycle. The plant efficiency, specific power consumption, product purity and behavior of process parameter with respect to time have been discussed.
