Abstract

The Ottoman Empire was founded in 699AH\1299AD, after the death of Ertugrul, that started with his successor Othman, who established the Empire, which lasted for about 661 years until it ended in1341AH\1922AD. Othman began to fight the Romans in Asia Minor “who used the Mongols to fight the Ottomans”. In the thirteenth century, the Ottomans ruled only one of a number of Turkoman principalities that ringed the decadent Byzantine state in western Anatolia.
The study focus on the ships and boats during the reign of the Ottoman Empire from the first reign of Bayezid l until the end of Sultan Suleiman al- kānūnī’s rule, this period was full of naval conquests in which ships and boats were used. The study also dealt with the ships and boats industry and the arsenal. Finally, it sheds light on the workers on ships and workers in arsenals and the figures in the navy that affected the Ottoman navy.

Chapter 3: The Administration of the Ottoman Ships, this chapter is divided into three parts: (The Craftsmen and The Workers in the Ottoman Arsenal, the Workers in the Ottoman Navy, The Famous figures in the Ottoman Navy).
This study reached to many conclusions some of them are ( Ships and boats were used in wars during the reign of Muhamed II heavily, unlike the reign of and Murad II and reign of Muhamed I. There was a great use of ships during the battle of Constantinople. Although there was a development of ships and boats during the reign of Muhamed II, they weren’t as advanced as the European fleets. The production and use of ships and boats reached their peak during the reign of Suleiman I. The Ottoman arsenal at first was a necessity for shipbuilding in the reign of Sultan Bayezid I, and then developed into an integrated society. There were famous figures affected in the Ottoman maritime, such as Barbarossa Brothers, Kemal Reis, Piri Reis, Seydi Ali Reis, Selman Reis and Turgud Reis).
