Abstract

Summary
Obesity is a serious, multifactorial, chronic illness affecting patients of all ages. Its prevalence is continuing to increase at an alarming rate. Over the past 10 years, the treatment of severe obesity has radically changed through the benefits of bariatric surgery not only on weight loss significant and lasting, but also on reducing mortality, correction of metabolic disorders, reduction of cardiovascular risk and improving the quality of life.
The most common imaging examinations used in the post-operative period after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) are the upper gastrointestinal (UGI) series and computed tomography (CT). CT is performed when a complication is suspected. Un enhanced CT is performed to detect hemorrhage, and a sequence is then performed after oral intake of contrast material to detect a leak or fistula and finally contrast-enhanced CT is performed to identify an abscess.
The aim of work of the present study was highlight the role of contrast studies, ultrasound, and CT in evaluation the result and post-operative complications of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.
To elucidate this aim 65 patients with laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, referred to the department of Diagnostic Radiology in Tanta University Hospitals for contrast studies, ultrasound, and CT examination.
Our results revealed that females are more than males in which 44(67.7%) of our patients were females and only 21 patients (32.3%) were males. There was no statistical significance between age and sex with P value 0. 985.
