Abstract Obesity is an emerging health problem of growing importance. In 2012, more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese and in the past 30 years, childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents.. In a population-based study, 70% of obese youth (5-17 year) had at least one CVD risk factor, and 39% had two or more .Additional comorbidities of obesity include endocrinal abnormalities associated with increased risk of impaired glucose tolerance, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Epicardial fat (EF) is considered a passive lipid-storage unit, and also it is actively involved in the lipid and energy homeostasis of the myocardium. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is considered the gold standard for the assessment of total body fat and reference modality for the analysis of ventricular volumes and mass The aim of the work: to evaluate Epicardiac adipose tissue in obese children using CMR. Study the relationship of Epicardiac adipose tissue and anthropometric measurements, body composition, insulin resistance indices , serum level of chemerin and left ventricular function as assessed by speckle tracking echocardiography in obese childrenType of study: cross sectional study Materials and Methods: 20 obese pre-pubertal children (simple obesity) their ages ranged from (5-12 years) were enrolled consecutively from pediatric Endocrinology outpatient clinic, Mansoura University Children`s Hospital (MUCH) and 20 apparently healthy children of matched age and sex serve as control group from March 2017 to March 2019. |
