This study attempts to tackle the problematics of the transposition of interpersonal metafunction and interactive relations to a different reception context. The thesis particularly deals with the graphic story Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in English and its Arabic graphic adaptation Byda҆ Al θlj w Al āqzam Al Sbʽh . It approaches its object of study by utilizing multimodality as a framework. This study examines how the interpersonal metafunction of Gunther Rolf Kress and Theo Van Leeuwen’s (2006) transpose some visual and cultural meanings in the graphic story in English and its Arabic graphic adaptation. The study also examines how the nonverbal modulations of the Arabic adaptation render the intended meaning of the original English one. The thesis argument is for the nonverbal modulations of imagery in accordance with the cultural differences between the original images in English and their Arabic adaptation that manifests itself in the following: gaze interaction, social distance interaction, costume decorum code, women actions and reaction, women postures, men representation and role of nature. The results reveal that the Arabic graphic adaptation has entailed several visual modulations. Consequently, the adaptor depicted various nonverbal modulations in the Arabic adaptation, so the process of meaning making is transposed differently to address the target Arab reader’s culture. Hence, the Arabic adaptation is presented with various nonverbal modulations, which totally produces a new graphic story.
