Abstract

Summary Inflammation plays a key role in the development of atherosclerosis and in the pathogenesis of acute coronary syndrome (Lubrano and Balzan, 2015).
100 Patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction were referred and subjected to primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) at cardiovascular medicine department Tanta university hospital catheterization laboratory.
Patients were divided into three groups based on the Syntax score:
 group I: Low SYNTAX (1–22) included 33 patients.
 group II: Moderate SYNTAX (23–32) included 33 patients.
 group III: High SYNTAX (≥ 33) included 34 patients.
The aim of this study was to assess relationship between the severity of coronary atherosclerosis assessed by syntax score (SS) and Monocyte / lymphocyte Ratio (MLR), Neutrophil / lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in patients with ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI).
All patients were subjected to; written consent, full history taking, complete clinical examination, ECG, cardiac biomarkers, laboratory investigations including: random blood sugar and kidney function (serum urea, serum creatinine) before and after coronary angiography, CBC of all patients and Monocyte / lymphocyte Ratio (MLR), Neutrophil / lymphocyte ratio (NLR) were measured, lipid profile, percutaneous coronary intervention and analysis of angiogram and calculation of Syntax score.
