Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of tea types (White, Black, Green and Oolonge tea) on hyperglycemic rats.
Thirty adult male albino rats, weighing 150-160g were divided into six groups each with five rats .One of them was negative control group which fed on standard diet and tab water, and the other group was fed on standard diet and injected with 150mg /kg body weight by alloxan for one week to induce hyperglycemic rats.
This group was further divided into the following subgroups:
group (2): 5 rats positive control group (untreated group)
group (3): 5 rats treated with 5% Black tea.
group (4): 5 rats treated with 5% Green tea.
group (5): 5 rats treated with 5% White tea.
group (6): 5 rats treated with 5% Oolonge tea.
At the end of experiment (4weeks), the blood samples were collected after 12 hours fasting and serum was separated for determination of:
Lipid profile , total cholesterol (TC),triglycerides (TG),high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLc), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLc), very low density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDLc) , Urea , creatinine, Uric Acid, Glotamic Oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) , Glotamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT) , Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and serum glucose .
At the same time ,the organs : kidney and liver were removed ,washed in solution ,dried by filter paper , weighted .Liver and kidney stored frozen in formalin solution 10% for histopathological examinations.

Statistical analysis
The data were statistically analyzed using a computerized costate program by one way ANOVA. The results are presented as mean ± SD. Differences between treatments at (p≤0.05) were considered significant.
The results can revealed as following:
1. There were a significant increases in BWG, FI and FER of rats injected with alloxan control (+) group, while rats injected by alloxan then fed on all tested plants had a significant decreases in BWG, FI and FER when compared to control (+).
2. Rats fed on groups 5 (black tea 5%) showed the best results as for FI for hyperglycemic rats when compared to control (+).
3. Hyperglycemic rats fed on group 6 (Oolong tea 5%) recorded the best treatment of BWG and best treatment of FER was recorded for group 6 (Oolong tea 5%) when compared to control (+).
4. There were a significant increases in relative liver, spleen, lungs, heart and kidneys weights of rats injected with alloxan as compared to control (-) group.
5. Hyperglycemic rats fed on group 3(black tea 5%) showed the lowest mean value of liver and spleen. The best treatment of heart and kidney was recorded for group 5 (white tea 5%).group 4 (green tea) was recorded the best treatment of kidney weight when compared to control (+).
6. Hyperglycemia raised appreciably the level of serum glucose, while feeding tea types lowered considerably the serum glucose , best treatment was that (black tea 5%) as compared with control (+) group.
