Abstract

The present study built up on selecting tolerant crop plant among various ones(maize, cowpea and faba bean) parallel with selecting the best addition methods (soil application, spraying and soaking) of sodium nitroprussiede (SNP) as nitric oxide(NO)donor and select appropriate doses of SNP stimulating growth at early vegetative growth. Our characterization conducted to the whole growing cycle of various cultivars from the most tolerant and highly responded crop plant to record the morpho-physiological responses to nitric oxide and its relation to crop yield production to perform a more reliable image of the response of the selected crop plant under the interaction effect of drought or hypoxia as well as NO.
The present investigation divided into two parts, part I (short term experiments) as well as part II (long termexperiments)
The main experimental results of part I can be summarized as the following:-
1- As assessed from the data of shoot and root dry weight of crop plants under 70%, 50% FC and 200% FC merely indicated gradation of the water deficit and hypoxia tolerance of the crop plants as the following: faba bean<cowpea<maize. Hence, the most tolerant crop plant to water deficit and hypoxia was faba bean.
2- The best addition methods of SNP from the three methods (soil application, spraying and soaking) was seed soaking.
