Abstract

Childhood obesity is a serious and progressively increasing public health problem that has reached epidemic proportions. Metabolic and cardiovascular complications of obesity in childhood, while less common than in adulthood, may nevertheless include insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
This study was carried out to to examine the diagnostic utility of Serum visfatin levels as a new indicator in childhood obesity and evaluate the risk of fatty liver and diabetes and associations between above studied parameters, clinical and anthropometric measurements.
This study included 62 patients, who were clinically evaluated as overweight, obese, and 35 apparently healthy age and sex matched served as controls.
Patients and control were subjected to history taking, full clinical examination including blood pressure, height, weight, BMI, and were tested for fasting blood glucose , lipid profile and serum visfatin levels ,the NAFL was assessed by abdominal ultrasound
The visfatin levels in our study were higher in obese than overweight children , visfatin levels in serum increases with increasing of body weight, but also that obesity alone is not a unique causative factor that affects the increase of its concentration.
