Abstract

Adolescence is the period during which the future life style and behavior are being shaped. The leading causes of illness and death among adolescents and young adults are largely preventable. Add in the fact that teen brains also are more excitable, and risk-taking is almost inevitable. Adolescents often engage in risky behaviors such as smoking, drinking alcohol, using drugs, and early unprotected sexual activity.
