Abstract Acquired punctal stenosis is a condition in which the external opening of the lacrimal canaliculus is narrowed or occluded, When ioccurs, the commonest presenting symptom is tearing, Patients may also have vague complaints of ocular discomfort. Stenosis must be distinguished from complete occlusion of the puncti, which differs in its treatment and prognosis, Common causes for punctal stenosis include Aging, and inflammatory conditions as chronic blepharitis, topical medications, irradiation and others.Recently AS-OCT is reported to be a useful non-invasive of high resolution cross-sectional imaging of tissue microstructures using infra-red radiation for imaging of proximal lacrimal system. The aim of the study is to evaluate the role of AS-OCT in diagnosis of punctal stenosis and comparing parameters before and after receiving treatment. The study was conducted on 40 eyes of 24 patients with punctal stenosis. In control group, 20 eyes of 10 patients of normal asymptomatic subjects. We studied the diameter and morphology of stenosed puncta before treatment using AS-OCT, then patients were reevaluated after one month of treatment in the form of Methylprednisolone 5% eye drops. |
