Abstract

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a common, acquired, benign vascular neoplasm of the skin and mucous membranes. It occurs most often in children and adolescents. Both topical and systemic beta blockers have been used in the treatment of pyogenic granuloma.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of topical propranolol 1% cream and topical timolol 0.5% cream in the treatment of pyogenic granuloma.
The study included 20 patients suffering from pyogenic granuloma. Patients were divided into two groups:
group I: 10 patients were treated by topical 1 % propranolol cream for 2 months
group II: 10 Patients were treated with 0.5 % timolol cream, twice daily for 2 months.
Of 20 patients, six showed complete response within 4–8 weeks, with no recurrence at 3-month follow-up. Three patients each showed partial response. 8 patients showed no response and 3 patients reports that the lesion has enlarged. There was no statistically significant difference between the studied groups as regard treatment efficacy. No local or systemic side effects were reported in any of the patients.
