Abstract
Schizophrenia affects about 1 in 100 individuals, usually beginning in late adolescence or early adulthood. Untreated, it runs a chronic, deteriorating course (Semple, et al, 2013). In addition to personal tragedy, schizophrenia creates substantial public health burden due to the cost of life long health care needs and lost productivity (Semple, et al, 2013). Schizophrenia has received the greatest attention in terms of research, this is because of the dramatic and devastating effects the disorder can have on an individual’s quality of life and their prospects for employment, marriage, and parenthood (Semple, et al, 2013).
