Abstract The authors of this study compared the potential effect of ESI versus IFT in managing patients with CLBP. It was a randomized, controlled, prospective, single-center trial on 60 patients complaining of CLBP of ≥12 weeks. Patients were randomly assigned into 3 groups; each of 20 patients. Patients of group A received one blind interlaminar ESI with 12 sessions of core strengthening exercises over 3 successive weeks, patients of group B received IFT (two pole technique; Each session lasted for 20 minutes, scheduled as four sessions per week for 3 successive weeks) combined with core strengthening exercises. Patients of group C received only core strengthening exercises for 3 successive weeks; and served as the control group. All patients completed the study protocol. There was no significant difference between groups regarding pain severity, disability (ODI) or depression (BDI) before interventions. There was a significant improvement in VAS, NRS, ODI, and BDI scores at 3 weeks, 6 weeks and 12 weeks following treatment in each of the studied groups (P<0.001). At the end of the study; the improvement in group A was better than that in either group B or group C regarding VAS, NRS and ODI (P<0.001) scores improvement but not BDI scores. There was no significant difference between group B and group C regarding percent of improvement of any of the studied parameters at end of the study. No major adverse events were reported in any group. |
