Abstract

This work was carried out on 45 adult healthy Balady rabbits of both sexes with variable ages and were weighted 2-3.5 Kg.
The collected rabbits were divided according to the method of examination. Twenty rabbits were undergoes gross and topographical morphology and morphometrical examination and five rabbits were used for study the blood supply and cast corrosion technique. Five rabbits were exposed to Gray scale and Doppler ultrasonographic examination and five rabbits were subjected to radiographic examination. Another three rabbits were undergoes computed tomography techniques and frozen transverse and sagittal sections. Kidneys from seven rabbits were used for light microscopic and Scanning electron microscope examination.
The following results were obtained:
1- The mean weight of both kidneys was about 7.5±2.6 gm. The mean length of the right kidney was 3.48±0.43 cm and left kidney was 3.55±0.44 cm, while the mean width of right one was 2.27±0.29 cm and of left one was 2.3±0.29 cm.
2- The rabbit kidney contained two main pelvic septa forming in between a sinus which received the renal pelvis. Secondary septa were projected from outer free margin of main pelvic septum dividing the outer medulla into peripelvic columns. The pelvic tissue reflected on the free semilunar edges of the main pelvic septum, forming pelvic recesses in which segmental vessels passed till corticomedullary junction.
