Abstract
The thesis aimed to investigate the biochemical and physiological effects of vildagliptin treatment alone, and in combination with memantine, in a rat model of combined T2DM and AD. Vildagliptin alone and in combination with memantine caused a decrease in blood glucose, Homeostasis Model Assessment-Insulin Resistance, lipid profile, homocystein, malanodialdhyde, ,acetylcholinesterase and amyloid beta peptide, and an increase in apolipoprotein E. Vildagliptin treatment, either alone or in combination with memantine, modulates AD associated biochemical changes and downregulates amyloid precursor protein or phosphorylated tau expression in diabetic rats.
