Abstract 1-Acute otitis media (AOM) is a painful type of ear infection. It occurs when the area behind the eardrum called the middle ear becomes inflamed and infected. 2-Otitis media (OM) is one of the most common clinical complaints in the pediatrician’s office, accounting for more than 30 million clinic visits per year. It is the second leading diagnosis in pediatric emergency department visits 3-Risk factors of otitis media include: Age (younger), Allergies, Craniofacial abnormalities, Exposure to environmental smoke or other respiratory irritants, Exposure to group day care,Family history of recurrent acute otitis media, Gastroesophageal reflux, Immunodeficiency, No breastfeeding, Pacifier use and Upper respiratory tract infections. |
