Abstract Anabaena sphaerica, Anabaena flos-aquae, Nostoc muscorum and Phormidium sp. were isolated, and extracted by water and organic solvents. Qualitative phytochemical screening showed the presence of carbohydrates, alkaloid, terpenoids, phytosterol, amino acids, glycosides, flavonoids and diterpenes. Phenolic compounds are completely absent. The antimicrobial activities were assayed against three bacterial strains (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and eight fungal species (Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger, A. flavus, A. nidulans, A. fumigatus, Nigrospora sp., Penicillium rubrum and P. citrinum). The highest antibacterial effects were with S.aureus then E.Coli then P. aeruginosa. Anabaena flos-aquae gave the highest antifungal activities. A. nidulans and A. flavus were resistances to all extracts. MIC of ethyl acetate extract of Anabaena flos-aquae against bacteria was 1.0 µL against P.aeruginosa and E.coli and 2.5 µL against S.aureus. For fungi was (2.5 µL) against (P.rubrum; Nigrospora sp.; A.niger A. fumigatus) and (10 µL) against P.citrinum and C. albicans. |
