Abstract

BPH commonly evolves as an age-related phenomenon in almost all men, initiating at approximately 40 years-of-age (Roehrborn, 2005). LUTS secondary to BPH, such as urinary hesitancy, intermittency, urgency, incomplete bladder emptying, weak stream, and nocturia, can have a significant impact in patients’ quality of life (QoL) (Barry et al., 1993).
In the studies, we have demonstrated that ED is highly prevalent in our community(El-Sakka et al., 2004). The exact etiology of lower urinary tract symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) has not yet been determined, and the etiology of erectile dysfunction (ED) is often multiclausal and includes organic and/or psychogenic causes, as well as their combinations. Although the relation of BPH, and thus the volume of the prostate with ED are indisputable, precise mechanisms of integration are still under examination. Although many tentative theories have been pro- posed to explain the association between ED and LUTS, the underlying mechanism of ED in patients with LUTS is not well understood. In our study we assessed the association between prostate zonal volume and erectile function in patients with BPH.
In the current study, we found that IPSS is positively correlated with TPV, TZV, TZI, and negatively correlated with PZV, PSV. We also found that IIEF is positively correlated PSV, PZV, and negatively correlated with TPV, TZV, TZI. We also found PSV is positively correlated with PZV, and negatively correlated TPV, TZV, and TZI.
