Abstract

The endometrial cavity abnormalities represent a significant diagnostic challenge for radiologists. This may be attributed to the potentially overlapping imaging features of the normal endometrium influenced by the phase of menarche in addition to variable benign and malignant endometrial lesions including submucosal fibroid, endometrial polyp, endometrial hyperplasia, and endometrial neoplasms.
The objective of our study was to evaluate the utility of advanced magnetic resonance imaging in assessment of endometrial lesions. TVUS, conventional MRI, DW-MRI, DCE-MRI, and histopathologic examinations were done for 40 Female patients. The examined cases age ranged from 40 to 75-year-old. They were referred from the Obstetrics and Gynecology department to Radiodiagnosis department during the period from April 2013 to June 2017.
Inclusion criteria were patients with abnormal vaginal bleeding with thickened endometrium that was proved by ultrasonography (> 15 mm in premenopausal women and 5 mm in postmenopausal women) or with endometrial masses, Exclusion criteria included patient on hormonal therapy, patients with systemic causes of bleeding and patients with absolute contraindication to MRI.
