Abstract
During the last decades it has been proposed that oxidative stress plays a pivotal role in different pathophysiological conditions such asatherosclerosis, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, neurodegeneration (e.g. Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases), inflammation and even aging. Oxidative stress occurs when the generation of free radicals or reactive oxygen species (ROS) exceeds the antioxidant capacity of a biological system. Excess free radicals and ROS attack biological molecules leading to tissue or cellular injury. Antioxidants are free-radical scavengers that provide protection to living organisms from damage caused by ROS.
Although almost all organisms possess antioxidant defense and repair systems but these systems are insufficient to cope over the entire damage.
So, antioxidant natureceuticals and nutriceuticals are promising means to strengthen the antioxidant defense and repair systems.
This study aims at quantitative analysis of some antioxidant natureceuticals and nutriceuticals in their natural sources and pharmaceutical matrices using different analytical techniques.First and second derivative treatment of data was performed. The obtained data were handled using various statistical regression methods.
The results of these statistical methods were compared.
