Abstract Pancreatic cancer is one of the most devastating diseases of the GIT. The tumor has the lowest survival rate among other types of cancer. The disease is so aggressive that it is often discovered after metastasis to other organs. Chemotherapeutic treatment of non-resectable tumor failed to enhance the patients’ survival along with having tolerated side effects. The thesis aimed to develop novel drugdelivery systems based on natural carriers for treatment of pancreatic cancer. Two natural polymers were exploited in drug delivery namely Fucoidan (as an example on marine based polymer) and Lignin (as an example of bio-renewable polymer of plant origin)along with proposing the synthesis of inorganic selenium nanoparticles using natural polymers (lactoferrin and hyaluronic acid) as both stabilizers and targeting ligands. Finally, we tested the efficacy of nanocomposite combining the effect of chemotherapy and inorganic selenium nanoparticles for more efficient treatment of the disease with lower toxicity.
