Abstract toplasty is a rewarding procedure with low morbidity and high rates of surgical success and patient satisfaction. The timing of otoplasty should take into account child’s wishes, the psychosocial burden of the perceived deformity, and the maturity/motivation of the child to cooperate with the postoperative care. Various otoplasty techniques exist that have been modified over time. Many of these procedures are useful in addressing prominence of the ear, it is difficult to ascertain which methods are superior, and it may be that there is no one superior method. With several techniques to choose from, satisfactory and reliable results with low complication rates can be achieved, as long as the surgeon is proficient with the chosen techniques. In our study, we found that there is no difference between cartilage cutting techniques and cartilage sparing techniques in term of recurrence, bleeding and infection. However, cartilage cutting techniques have higher proportion of hematoma while cartilage sparing techniques have higher proportion of suture extrusion. |
