Abstract Although there are great advances in the pharmacological treatment of many diseases and emergencies, yet the traditional medicine attracted increased attention especially in the industrialized world. This is because it is based on the natural healing response; also it is effective, more economical, easily practiced, less invasive, and less harmful than conventional medical treatment. Though the alternative treatments perform many healing functions in the body and are less harmful than the conventional therapies, yet they should not be used without consultation of a licensed, expert health care provider, This study is conducted according to the (O/uyi) classification, and (WHO) design of alternative medicine; taking in considerations that every technique or therapy mentioned in it should be natural. It includes the following: • Herbal medicine: in which medicinal herbs and kitchen herbs were discussed thoroughly. • Diet and nutrition: which was categorized into basic healthy diet with special concerns of oily fish, honey royal jelly, and milk, it also includes fruits, vegetables, vitamins, minerals, and finally, water. • Mind/body control; in which, meditation, relaxation,” manual healing, and yoga are discussed for their benefits in reduction of the level of stress hormones in the body and enhancing immune system activity. • Physical activity and its role in maintaining fitness, and promoting health are clarified in a separate chapter. • Another chapters included in the study are detoxification, which means neutralizing, or transforming toxins and then clearing them from the body. Also there are separate chapters for the benefits of fasting, light, and sound therapies. • The clinical application of the previously mentioned therapies are included, to be a practical guide for different practitioners and the primary health care physicians. • Finally, the various researches implemented in Egypt are summarized to be the first step in exploring the natural alternative medicine. CONCLUSIONS • It was concluded that though many people believed that herbs were as effective as drugs, but without the side effects, yet many of known herbs were poisonous and deadly so they must be used appropriately, not indiscriminately. • The basic healthy diet should include vegetables, fruits, fish, and dietary fibers, whereas saturated fats and refined carbohydrates should be minimized. • Physical activities are a must, to promote health; and other techniques of manual and mind / body control should be performed under professional supervision. • Regular fasting is recommended as it helps detoxification, and thus helps reverse the aging process. • Application of all other alternative remedies in clinical practice, by experienced practitioners, on a scientific basis |
