Abstract

The present study was conducted to throw the light on the possible protective effect of Vitamin E and fresh garlic against adverse effects of linezolid in male albino rats.
After two weeks of acclimatization, thirty male albino rats were divided into six equal groups each of five rats.
Group1: (control) was kept as control
Group2: (tween 80) was orally administered tween80 (0.5 ml/200 g b wt) for 14 consecutive days.
Group3: (olive oil) was given olive oil 0.2 ml for 14 consecutive days.
Group4:(linezolid) was received linezolid(100mg/kg b wt) for 14 consecutive.
Group5: (vitamin E+ linezolid) was administered vitamin E (100 mg/kg b wt) one hour before linezolid for 14 consecutive days.
Group6: (garlic +linezolid) was received fresh garlic (500 mg/kg b wt) one hour before linezolid for 14 successive days.
After 14th day of the experiment, 1stblood samples were collected freshly from retro-orbital plexus of each animal using and clean dry glass centrifuge tubes containing EDTA for hematological examination. 2ndblood samples were collected in glass tubes without anticoagulant, then centrifuged at 3000 r.p.m for 20 min for separation of serum which stored at (-20˚C) till be utilized for measuring liver function parameters: liver enzymes (ALT, AST and ALP activities), protein profile (Total protein, albumin, globulin and A/G ratio) and lipid profile (total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL-c, VLDL-c and HDL-c levels) in addition to kidney.
